You might have read the title and went- really? Millennials? Aren’t they selfish, self-centered and too consumed by technology to even notice the world around them? Well, to be fair that is an image that is very often put out there, but the reality is quite different, and much better. So here to introduce you to a different side of millennials are all the aspects that make them the true cause generation.
They are some of the biggest charity donors
A 2015 report states that eighty-four percent of employed Millennials made a charitable donation in 2015, this is quite a number. The fact that they are present on social media and following events through those platforms makes them a lot more aware of what is happening in the world and in their community. This is one of the main reasons they are more prone to helping out and being active in different charity organizations. They tend to focus on those that are changing the future of the younger generations, like ever-relevant girls scholarships that make a huge impact on girls from economically disadvantaged families, and provide them with a chance for a better future.
Millennials are not all about the money
The one thing about millennials is that they value their resources like time, networking, skills and money equally. So it is not only their funds that they donate. In a lot of cases it is their time and knowledge. Being digitally savvy allows them to find volunteering opportunities online, and choose which ones they are passionate the most. In some cases these are long term volunteering projects, in other short volunteer stunts, depending on their work and life schedules. A lot of them opt to spend their vacations doing volunteer work in impoverished countries.
They are all about the involvement
Millennials love to get involved and due to their online presence they are able to get their network of friends and acquaintances involved too. So it is a generation of doers. The only thing that matters to them is that the organization they donate their time and money is a transparent one so that they are certain that everything they do is ending up in the right hands. Millennials are able to do a lot for a cause they believe in, as long as they see the end results clearly. And don’t try to fool them, they are quite capable of using their digital knowledge to dig out any information they need.
They are result-oriented
When millennials get involved in a certain cause, they are all about getting the results. They want to see that the actions are promoting a change around them. It is not about the vague causes any more, you cannot fool millennials with that type of rhetoric. They want actual results, clearly visible, and this is what makes the change motivated by them that much faster. Their desire to see what they wear investing their resources in is prompting organizations to do more, show more and inadvertently make a far greater effect on the world. So go millennials!
Millennials are driven
A generation that has come to age in economically uncertain times is driven to succeed. The changes in the job market and the rise of the tech companies have altered their attitude towards work. This generation is now result-driven, you can advance in your workplace if you show the result, and not just show up. This is one of the ways of thinking and doing that millennials have transferred to their causes. And it is one of the main reasons why certain changes in society are that much more visible.
They have made charity popular
By sharing all the aspects of their life on social media platforms, the millennials have raised the bar when it comes to doing more. Each time the post or tweet about something they have done it tends to motivate others to do the same or more. This might seem like a silent competition among millennials, but as long as it gets things done and helps people then go for it. Sharing their thought and experiences in such a public way is the best possible means of raising awareness.
Millennials ask the right questions
Asking -why?- seems to be the motto of this generation. They no longer willing to accept things as is, but rather they are trying to get into the reasons behind it. This type of attitude is what drives the change, asking the right questions, finding flaws in logic and correcting them, millennials are the ones who are running this movement, no doubt about it. And it is this inquisitiveness that makes people rethink some firmly set rules and makes them much more willing to consider changes.
